Happy New Year!
I have been inside my apartment since Thursday, and I find that I will be going nowhere today. The winds are raging on as the plows try to pile up the mess that is the New Year’s blizzard. But you know what?
Snape always says for me the things I cannot say. I am sitting on my bed drinking the remaining cereal milk from my Cinnamon Toast Crunch breakfast, and I find that despite the fact that I’ve essentially done nothing for three days now, life is good.
That’s right, folks, I said it.
Wait…where did they come from?
Okay, now things are just getting silly. I’m officially done with the Potter references for this post. Moving on.
My goal for the day is to finish reading “The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro. It’s been a slow-moving process since yesterday, and I am presently sitting at page 33 out of 245. I will finish today. It can be done. It will be done!
My real intention for this post was to talk about the trips I will be going on this year, but clearly Snape had other plans for me. In short:
I am going to Chicago in February.
This isn’t one of those “I need to see Chicago before I die!” trips. Truth be told, I’ve been to Chicago. Don’t believe me, do you? Think the girl from North Dakota hasn’t been anywhere? I mean, we’re practically Canada, right? North Dakota isn’t real. And we certainly don’t travel! Funny, because that’s WHY I’m going to Chicago. I’m meeting up with some friends from *gasp* the internet, who are convinced that North Dakota doesn’t exist and that I really live in Canada (Eh!?). I have been talking with Abbey and Janice since 2005 (though Abbey is convinced it’s 2004). Our friendship is Harry Potter related, and I’ll leave it at that.
Anyways, I am meeting up with the two Ohio-ians, as well as one of Janice’s friends, Ali. I’m completely stoked for this adventure. I don’t know how I’m getting there yet (probably train–flights are too much), but I have the hotel booked, so that means I’m going. I have no idea what we’re doing there yet, but for sure we are going to a musical that has something to do with Darren Criss. He’s the bloke from A Very Potter Musical and that GLEE show that some people think is the sun and the moon. I love musicals, so I’m excited regardless.
Now for that proof you’ve been looking for…you know, because I haven’t made a “Travel” section official on my site yet.
So that’s Chicago! I can’t wait to go back. If anyone is from Chicago, lives in Chicago, or has been to Chicago, please offer up some suggestions for entertainment in the city. My friends haven’t been, so I’m the guide for trip. Yikes!
I am going to Las Vegas in March.
This trip is one I have been debating for a few months now. My dad and step-mom are going to Vegas for his 50th birthday, and it’s conveniently over Spring Break. The reason I debated this trip is because I have absolutely no interest in going to Vegas, or that is to say I didn’t. I’m not a drinker. I’m not a gambler. I have no interest in marriage at twenty-three. I don’t care how many famous people live there. And lastly, I have no interest in strip clubs. Translation? I’m judging Vegas quite intensely. I have been (slightly) unfair.
I decided that I will be going to Vegas because I love spending time with my dad and we haven’t been on a trip together since…birth? I mean, sure, we’ve been to Minneapolis, but when you live less than four hours away that’s not really a vacation. My siblings and grandmother might also join in on the fun, so that would make it even better. I hope to go to a show or two, because really that’s mostly what I would enjoy there. I also want to check out the Paris hotel and everything involved there. Otherwise, it’s up in the air. I’m going to not be my annoying self and plan every second of that trip. I’m going to let this one happen as it does. As it should be, right?
I am going to England…in my head.
Okay, I need to be fair. I am in England every single day…in my head. Despite the great time I had last year (which will debut on the “Travel” section when I get to it), I won’t be going back this year. I really want to, but I know that if I go there I will never come back, and I need to graduate college first. I will be going on more trips than these two, but I don’t have anything set in stone at the moment. I will update you when that comes.
And that is all I have for today! I need to get back to reading this book and distracting myself from it every hour or so. I hope you all have a great day and made the transfer safely from 2010 into 2011. For myself, I know this is going to be a great year.
What are your travel plans for 2011?
Would you bring Severus Snape with you on vacation?
