What a fantastic Saturday so far! Book club finished discussing Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man at an adorable (and I think new) cafe downtown called Josie’s Corner. You know, the kind where it looks like Europe inside but you know it’s Midwest when a woman says “Oh for cute!” in that little Minnesotan accent. Try following that up with a little “Oh my stars!” Yes, that is my life.
I went to Zandbroz afterwards that is a block from the cafe. Naturally there is a train track between the two blocks and I had to stand around waiting for it on the return route to my car. Oh well. C’est la vie. “La vie.” Funny. Sorry, that was from a movie. Let me continue. I purchased a couple of cards for various upcoming events (surely nothing to do with Father’s Day or the wedding I’m attending next weekend). I also purchased an interesting little number (as seen below). Random book finds are my favorite.
I met up with Brian at Babb’s Coffee after purchasing my finds at Zandbroz. He sucked back a raspberry lemonade while I daintily enjoyed a cherry cream soda. Oh, and I also schooled him at chess. That’s what happens when you go up against a lady who got second place in the sixth grade chess tournament. You know, Dumbledore decided I deserved second place for my moral fiber.
Once we’d had enough there, we went for a walk through Island Park. People were doing plank position in the grass, walking of ropes between trees and taking up space next to my favorite statue. There was also a wedding going on at the gazebo. We were tempted to try meshing in, but the walk proved more logical. We have to be adults sometimes, you know. Not all the time, but sometimes.
I finished out my adventures by having dinner at Brian’s house. Swiss cheeseburgers, broccoli-slaw, potato salad, chips and pickles. Delight! And now that I’m home…Riesling. I bought two bottles yesterday of Starling Riesling that I fell for at my step-siblings graduation part. Some people fall for, well, people. I fall for wine and coffee flavors…and awesome book finds, apparently.
